I don’t know much about computers yet, and I’d like to get advice from people who do have knowledge about them.

I understand not every decade was a clean break, but each decade has fairly distinct defining properties. It feels like most of the 21st century has been a single run on with smaller changes. I know sometimes the definitions don’t come into focus until later, but I’ve been around since the 80s and I can distinctly remember the changes between the 80s, 90s and 00s as they were happening.

I see this trend all over the place. I just found out Sony has something called “MySony”. My bank has “MySpending Cards”. My company uses Paycom and it has something called “MyCom”, and i think i remember it also having more things with the MyNoun name format.

After immigrants are detained by ICE, there are probably records somewhere of who has an attorney, and who is calling family members or an attorney.

I’ve been a tomboy from a young age. My friends have always been guys, and I developed a dislike for being around other girls around age 10-11 because the people who bullied me were all girls.

I’ve only heard bits and pieces of this from friends and strangers through some specific events so far and desire to know more about it, at least that which is publicly witnessed or documented. It seems like a kind of a paradox that online video games are held accountable for servers that they have nothing to do with, but meanwhile a browser can be truly open and doesn’t have to employ any restrictions like age verification, or banning ips? Not even China goes after the browser level.

I am currently using Fedora 43 KDE, and this issue only recently popped up. My trackpad is being exceptionally borky, I can’t accurately use it without any jitters and jumps! I have no idea why this is happening. Like when I try and click a button, the trackpad decides to jump to the button below for who knows why. For reference, when I use a mouse, it tracks fine, and the touchscreen still works. I think my stylus does as well. It’s just something to do with the trackpad. How do I fix my trackpad? Is there a way to “recalibrate” it or something?

Sometimes I want to listen to raw song covers that are ideally just video recordings without digital alterations. I used to be able to just look up *song name* acoustic/unplugged cover on Youtube and I’d already get what I want.

From bouncing around my favorite corners of the Internet, I get the impression that large numbers of people have “a guy” (of any gender), akin to a weed dealer in furtiveness and legality, who is hooking them up with an underground, probably Plex-based (but increasingly moving to Jellyfin), streaming service. I get the impression that there are hundreds to thousands of these little “Plex server” operations, each serving a couple dozen to a hundred or so users out of the goodness/vileness of each “guy"’s heart and the hobby budget of that “guy"’s homelab. This isn’t all Plex gets used for or even necessarily the main use case, but I think they’re out there.

Most days I sort of feel like I’m empty and I’m not really sure what to do about it. I want to be better and hopefully find some sense of direction, motivation, or fulfillment. I could definitely use some advice and help, please and thank you!

I’ve been trying to exercise more lately. I’m now running on a machine at home for about an hour a day. I’m not really getting tired, but my big problem is that I sweat A LOT. (I’m overweight, so that probably has something to do with it.) I’ve been trying to manage it with towels to wipe off the sweat, but I would have to use an unreasonable number of towels to get through the whole thing without being drenched in sweat by the end.

Am I financialy enabling child labor in 3rd world country by buying second hand fast fashion from Thrift shop and Vinted? Because I am not the one who originally bought the clothes from Shein. But buy buying it again from someone else I still use it uhhuhh this is complicated.

Like, you aren’t necessarily next door neighbors. You’d have to take the streetcar or bus or commuter rail some distance to go meet your friend. You can’t text “sorry the train is 30 minutes late”, because no cell phones, no internet, no tracking buses or trains on your smartphone. No payphones or landlines.

For a long time any room I’m familiar with, whether it be at home, work, or a friend/family members house, I always flip up on the light switch or press the on button every time I enter, even if it’s already on. Especially in the bathrooms. Is this a neurotic thing similar to OCD or does everyone do this when they’re not paying attention?

Occasionally there will be a popup saying the phone is putting apps that haven’t been used in a while to sleep to save battery. Why doesn’t it just do this all the time? Why does an app need to be “awake” if I am not using it?

Edit: I just realized that there might be some users that don’t know what Tiny10 and 11 are. They are modified (and highly unofficial) versions of Windows 10 and 11 that removed most of bloatware and unnecessary system requirements from them. I’ve only ever used them from a virtual machine but I have seen some videos of people using them on real hardware, so I was curious about them myself.

Im a little confused. Is America actually capitalist, or is it crony capitalist? Would TRUE capitalism have any problems? On the surface, it makes sense: make good product, get money. Someone makes better product, you need to improve yours or you go out of business. The issue is when we get monopolies and regulations that then restrict actual good products from being able to exist. But thats not a thing in true capitalism (so they say)

To my knowledge (that is, a couple YouTube videos on the topic, this could be outdated/false information), there are some people who aren’t happy that the U.S. names itself after the continent of America (implying that they have a right to all of America, manifest destiny to the max). Whether that is true or not, naming stuff is always fun, so what is a good name that is representative of what the U.S. is?

My laptop’s battery has clearly aged over the years (like milk, not wine) and it’s starting to become a problem in everyday use. When normally I can easily get through the day with maybe 20-30% remaining, Now my laptop always dies around 3:00, give or take an hour depending on usage. (And I’m not doing many heavy tasks either - mainly web browsing, doing schoolwork, occasionally watching a few internet videos, that sort of thing. I don’t play many games, and the ones I do play aren’t that intensive, stuff like Minecraft. I don’t play any “AAA” games - who came with that anyways? It’s a really stupid label. What gives a game 3 As, and why isn’t there too many “AA”, “A”, or “B-E” games? Why not just call them corporate games or similar, since many indie games are just as good, if not better, without using over a hundred gigabytes of storage and being super inefficient…)
