For those of you who dont know: esp-idf is the official development framework for the ESP32 microntrollers. The nice thing is, that it comes with a port of FreeRTOS, lots of advanced Drivers and Tools to build, flash and debug your microcontrollers, which makes developing with for the ESP32 an absolute charm.

It turns out you can make a really fast instruction decoder in Scrap Mechanic if only you can figure out a special bit mask for each ALU operation. It turns out this is really frickity fucking hard to do by hand so I told a SAT solver to do it and it was fine until I asked for all the combinations I wanted and then… This.
In 1870 Émile Baudot created a code for telegraphy that used bits in place of dot and dashes. That allowed more words per minute to be transmitted than was possible with morse code.
I learned about this from Matt Parker’s Stand-Up Maths channel. It was originally conceived as a counterexample, a sorting algorithm that was obviously broken, but it does actually sort correctly. The algorithm:
