Why aren’t they automatically looking for business links between Slovenian domain vendors and the First Family? Melania is Slovenian after all and it would be such a misstep if not even her extended family got to profit from this one.

No, but he could definitely pull some strings to get IANA to add .trump as a new gTLD (honestly, I’m surprised it hasn’t already happened - I had to check) and the government has no obligation to continue using .us or .gov as far as I know.
