I mean, the story is cool. I really love hearing about all these bodies with weird orbits suggesting the existence of some long gone, off axis planet. It's a fantastic mystery!

But those NASA bacronyms...

This isn’t NASA, it’s a Japanese research team.

But I like the backronym style, especially when it makes it easier to explain to the general public.



For those wondering, Subaru is the Japanese word for the Pleiades star cluster, which the car company is also named after and why their logo is what it is.

The Pleiades were pretty important for ancient astronomy - they marked the equinox about 4000 years ago, around the time many civilizations were developing.
